      GELATIN
      Kosher gelatin can be made with fish bones and / or beef skins (if there is a kosher certification). Contrary to popular belief, its use in dairy products is considered kosher.
      Kosher law is very complex and the bones and hides used in gelatin production are considered parve, not meat and not dairy. The wider meaning of Parve refers to foods that are neither dairy nor meat, and for this reason many people believe that this means that the product is vegetarian. Instead, ingredients certified “Parve” may contain within them products of animal origin such as fish, eggs and gelatin. Kosher gelatin with marshmallows: Glatt Kosher and OU Parve, an article appeared in the magazine Koshrus, explains the distinction. A passage of that article reads as follows:
      “. since the gelatin is produced from hides and bones-and then not real meat – and is subject to substantial changes, it is no longer regarded as a derivative of the same meat, but parve whenever the gelatin is certified kosher by a Rabbi or a rabbinical body. “

As it is impossible to list all species, we give here a list of the most common ones: trout, hake, cod, sole, sea bass, sea bream, sardines, sardine, pilchard, Sardone, anchovy, tuna, mackerel, mullet, red mullet, seabream, grouper, carp , herring, pike, perch, marmora, mullet, plaice, St Peter, salmon, sea bass, turbot (not riveted), plaice.
